Apixaban sa môže znovu nasadiť po invazívnej procedúre alebo chirurgickom zákroku za podmienky, že to dovoľuje klinický stav pacienta a je stabilizovaná hemostáza, najskôr však po 12-24 hodinách (v závislosti od typu výkonu a rizika krvácania). Na neutralizáciu sa podáva 1 mg protamínsulfátu na 100 IU heparínu. Rýchlosť infúzie nemá prekročiť 50 mg na každých 10 minút podávania. Je nutné vyhnúť sa nadmernej dávke protamínsulfátu, ktorá má tiež antikoagulačný účinok. Tento bazický sulfát se váže na heparin za vzniku inertního komplexu.
